Mommy Moment Mondays: Knock Knock Jokes

Ellie attempted her first knock knock joke this past week. She was sitting in her high chair, while my mom and I were visiting, and suddenly Ellie jumped in and said, "Knock knock. Who's there? Honk Honk Beep Beep!" and then she laughed at herself, thinking she had said something pretty funny. And yes, we did think it was pretty funny.

The other night we were outside and the moon was out. Ellie pointed to the moon, stood on her tip toes, and said ,"Reaaaacccchhh!" as she tried to "reach" out and touch the moon. It was pretty cute.

P.S. I have been VERY busy thrift shopping. It is becoming a bit of an out-of-control hobby. Ever seen the show "Hoarders". Umm..yeah. No comment! Hope to post about all my great finds sometime this week.

Mommy Moment Mondays: Call Me Mommy

Ellie is loving playing outside now that we've finally had some decent weather (read not snow!).

This past week she started doing something funny that would not be so funny in a year or two. She has been referring to us by our first names! It is so hard to not laugh when she does this. On Mother's Day, she was sitting in her high chair and she wanted something, but instead of saying Mommy, she said, "Jenna...JENNNNa.....JenNA?". And yes, she's done this with my husband, too. Once she even called my husband by his first and last name! Thankfully, it is done in all innocence (so far!) When she does this, I nicely correct her and say, "No, call me Mommy." :-D

Mommy Moment Mondays

Lately Ellie has been copying everything I do. Her new favourite thing...putting on makeup, or at least attempting to! She is constantly going in my hair and makeup drawer and pretending to put gel in her hair or powder her cheeks. I caught her attempting to use the eyelash curler once but had to put an end to that one as I don't even want to think about what kind of nasty stuff is on there. It's pretty funny and cute, but it is also a sober reminder that she is truly watching everything I do, so I had better be careful. It lends credibility to the idea that children do as they see not as you say. That's not to say they shouldn't also do as you say! Of course they need to learn to obey, but the point is that if you are going to "talk the talk" you'd better "walk the walk."

The picture is a recent one of her. I love it because it looks so daydream-y. Too bad it's a tad blurry.

Mommy Moment Mondays

I thought I might try something new and blog about a "Mommy Moment" every Monday. There's bound to be something funny or interesting that happens during the week related to be a Mommy. Here's a funny Mommy Moment from this past week:

Last week we attempted to switch Ellie over from her crib to her toddler bed. We started with nap time as I was better prepared for a long drawn out battle in the afternoon than I would be at night time. The plan of action was to do her regular nap time routine, put her down and then every time she got out of bed, place her back in. Pretty simple. So, we started off and it took quite awhile to get her to stop getting out of bed every 10 seconds. Then, finally, she was staying in her bed, so I sat on the rocking chair beside her bed to wait there until she fell asleep. I was reading a book and nearly nodding off myself when suddenly someone's fingers were lightly rubbing my back and whispering, "Honey, Honnney, Honnnnnnneeey." I turned around and there was little Ellie standing on her bed reaching over to rub my back. It was nearly impossible not to laugh. Little Ellie has just started referring to me and her Daddy as "Honey." I guess she thought she could sweet talk me into letting her out of her bed ;-D. After a few days of the toddler bed, we decided to go back to the crib for a few more months. Hmm...maybe the sweet talking worked!

Losing My Marbles

Some days I really think I'm losing my marbles. I'm certain I'm not the only mother who has ever felt this way. I feel like I've been running off of caffeine for the last few weeks...uhh...actually, make that the last 11 months. Looks like our Little Bittles inherited a few of the "I hate sleeping" genes from both her mommy and daddy (especially her daddy, who still doesn't really like to sleep!) Here are a few of my latest "Losing My Marbles Moments", which I'm blaming on some major sleep deprivation ;).

  • Spending 20 minutes looking for a shirt that I was wearing all along. Funny thing - I kept thinking to myself, "I KNOW I saw that shirt a few minutes ago...WHERE could it have GONE!"
  • Putting a hat on Little Bittles instead of a bib at lunch time.
  • Turning the kettle on without filling it up with water first. This one really wasn't all that funny as my husband only realized my silly mistake several hours after the fact, and when we got home after being away for the evening, that kettle was HOT! Oops.
  • Singing the ABC's and having to actually think about the words/letters when I get to the part "T U V" because my brain suddenly wants to start singing those letters in French instead of English.
  • Starting the coffee maker without putting the filter back in
This edition of "Losing My Marbles Moments" has been brought to you by the life of one sleep deprived mommy.
